The case
Lindblad Expeditions (LEX) promotes sustainable travel and leads by example in protecting the seas, focused on eliminating disposable plastics. It has replaced plastic bottles with reusable stainless steel bottles since 2007 and, according to the company itself, has already eliminated 100% of customer-facing disposable plastics on its cruises.
Unplastify joined that mission: it provides educational materials, records and communicates the company's best sustainability practices, and measures its plastic footprint in the Galápagos Islands to communicate the real impact of its efforts.
The company
LEX is an expedition travel company founded in 1979, specializing in sustainable cruises to remote destinations on all seven continents. In partnership with National Geographic since 2004, it combines exploration with environmental education. It has been carbon neutral since 2019.
Programs
Informational content — information about plastic reduction through webinars and deliverables, for onboard employees and passengers.
Remote plastic exploration — participation in 2 expeditions with onboard activities (talks, beach cleanups, partnerships with local initiatives, live broadcasts and social media content), recorded and communicated after the expedition.
Galápagos pilot test — plastic footprint measurement in 4 areas (customer service, internal operations, suppliers and retail) and co-design of plastic-reduction strategies.
